This course will introduce the fundamental concepts of business, the management roles, functions and skills and organization structures. Furthermore, this syllabus will cover the different forms of ownerships and factors contributing to the increase in small businesses failures. In addition, this syllabus will expose students to different marketing perspectives such as target market, segmentation and the 4Ps. As importantly, the unit has been designed to include vital management topics such as human resource management, motivation, teamwork and the importance of global marketplace to business.

This unit is an introduction to Financial and Management Accounting and sets the basis for students to pursue further studies leading to degrees in Commerce and Business. The course will provide students with an understanding of the basic concepts of accounting, the recording of business transactions, preparation of financial statements, its analysis and interpretation thereof, and an introduction to management accounting for decision-making in business enterprises.
